The Father of the Groom Speech

The main events during the wedding day include the giving of speeches by the persons close to the bride and the groom. Hearing the speech from the father of the groom is a very special moment not only for the groom, but most especially for the bride, as she is being welcomed into the family by her father-in-law. This is a once in a lifetime event. The father of the groom will also be sharing experiences and learning from his married life which is very important for both the husband and wife.

Preparing the father of the groom speech is not an easy task. It must be planned well. Others may think that is possible to deliver an impromptu speech. Although this sounds true and exciting, the father of the groom must put in mind that this is a very special event and therefore, must be planned well beforehand. It is vital to think of all the things the father of the groom has to say and create a list from it. This will allow all essential things to be mentioned in the speech and prevent omitting important things from being part of the speech. Some of the important subjects which should be part of the speech include advice for both the bride and the groom, welcoming the bride as part of the family, encouraging and words of wisdom for the couple.

After planning for the speech and creating the list, the next important thing to do is to prepare the speech. This can be done by writing it on a piece of paper, notepad, index card or clue cards. This will provide details and an outline which makes it easier for the father of the groom to be familiarized with. Sometimes, it may be necessary to write it clearly, in big letters so that it will be much easier to read anytime and anywhere which will then allow the father of the groom to memorize the outline of the speech more.

To create the perfect speech, it is important to deliver a speech which is sincere and genuine. It must be heartfelt. The speech must contain the right emotion for the event. For example, when addressing to the bride, it may be necessary for the father of the groom to compliment her by praising the groom for choosing the perfect girl. This will create a friendly and warm atmosphere, while at the same time, making the bride feel important and special. The father of the groom may also consider sharing some funny and memorable stories of his son. Childhood stories will make the speech more humorous. However, when sharing stories of the groom, it is important to leave behind stories which include his past relationships with other women. This may ruin the night of the bride.

The perfect father of the groom speech must also include the part in which the groom father gives his son advices especially about marriage. Although there are various prepared speeches that can be of great help, it is important to keep in mind that the more personal the speech is, the more it will become memorable, touching and unforgettable.
